Laser Hair Reduction and Hirsutism from Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome By Crystal Davidson on August 04, 2016

Unwanted Facial/Body hair is something most women deal with on a regular basis.  However, women suffering from Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) suffer from a common side effect called Hirsutism.  Hirsutism is abnormal hair growth on places including; face, arms, chest, back, legs, pubic area.  Hirsutism is not only affecting women physically, it's affecting them emotionally.  Having excessive facial and body hair can make women feel embarrassed, but there are solutions and treatments to help control excessive hair growth.

First, let's discuss the cause of Hirsutism...  Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal disorder caused by an increase in insulin levels.  This in turn, causes the ovaries to produce excess androgens.  Testosterone is one of these androgens, and most people relate testosterone to men.  Women also have testosterone, but much lower levels than men.  The abnormal high level of hormones cause the ovarian cysts , which have numerous side effects.  One of these side effects it excessive hair growth.  Women who suffer from PCOS with Hirsutism see their hair gradually change from thin and light to thick and dark.

Common hair removal techniques such as waxing, creams, and shaving can help reduce the appearance of hair for a only a few days.  At our office, we offer our patients suffering from Hirsutism Laser Hair Reduction (LHR) to drastically reduce the appearance of unwanted hair.   LHR uses a laser that reaches the deeper layers of your skin, damaging the hair follicles while they are in the growth process.  Because follicles follow different cycles of regeneration, you will need more than one treatment. We use LHR to control the growth of the dark, course hair patches.  Most patients typically need several treatments, usually spaced 4-6 weeks apart.

Laser Hair Reduction has given women suffering from PCOS and Hirsutism the freedom from constant shaving, creams, and waxing...  LHR can give them the confidence they once had!
