About Perlane®
Perlane®, like Restylane®, is one of several dermal fillers composed of hyaluronic acid. This substance occurs naturally in the body and provides volume and fullness to the skin. For use in dermal fillers, hyaluronic acid is biotechnically engineered and stabilized into a clear gel. When this gel is injected into the skin, it lifts and plumps wrinkles and areas that look deflated due to aging. It also attracts water and brings it to the surface, moisturizing skin and making the face look supple and radiant.
Perlane® is very similar to Restylane®, but it contains a larger concentration of hyaluronic acid. Because of this, Perlane® is usually used for larger folds and deeper wrinkles, such as the nasolabial folds (lines from the nose to the corners of the mouth). In many cases, Dr. Yee can use Restylane® to maintain the results achieved with an initial Perlane® treatment. Perlane® may also be recommended to produce a temporary brow lift without the need for surgery.
The Treatment Process
Perlane® is free from animal protein, which prevents related complications and makes allergy pre-testing unnecessary. Prior to treatment, Dr. Yee will discuss your aesthetic goals with you, evaluate your appearance, and determine the areas that will best benefit from Perlane®. She will then mark strategic points on your face as guides for the appropriate injection sites. Next, the treatment area will be cleaned with an antibacterial agent and numbed with an anesthetic. Finally, Dr. Yee will inject tiny amounts of Perlane® into your wrinkles with an ultrafine needle. Typically, the injections take less than 15 minutes. However, very deep lines may require multiple injections at a deeper level to achieve the desired result.
You can anticipate very little discomfort throughout the treatment session. Afterward, the marks will be removed and Dr. Yee will offer you an ice pack to reduce any minor discomfort, which will be temporary. Results will be visible immediately. The effects of Perlane® generally last about six to nine months before it is broken down and eliminated by the body.
